What is so special about Silver Sea Apparel?
The fabric they use is completely plastic or polyester free! Both the fabric AND the bio-based spandex!
The bra is made up of 88% TENCEL Lyocell and 12% bio-based spandex.
What is TENCEL™ Lyocell fabric?
TENCEL Lyocell is fibers derived from natural raw wood material that is sourced from controlled or certified origins meeting FSC® or PEFC standards*, following the stringent guidelines of the Lenzing Wood and Pulp Policy. The fibers are manufactured in ways to reduce environmental impact, reduce resources, and is a closed loop production process.
I love TENCEL Lyocell based fabrics because they are:
- Super soft
- Breathable and gentle on the skin
- Have amazing stretch
- So far, wash really well!
Other sustainable and eco-friendly benefits of TENCEL lyocell and modal fabrics:
- They are made from wood from controlled or certified FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) forests
- Certified bio-based
- Created using environmentally responsible production process
- Fibers are certified compostable and biodegradable, compared to polyester based fabrics, that are literally plastic and can never ever break down.
They also use Bio-based Spandex, which I haven’t seen in any of the other brands so far that I have tested!

Silver Sea Apparel Lifestyle Bra Fit and Feel:
- It’s buttery soft!!
- It has thin classic style bra straps that are adjustable which is rare in sports bras, and thin enough to hide well under tanks or t shirts, but dainty to wear on its own with some leggings.
- The band is longline – quite wide and longer so it gives you a sort of “crop” top look which I do love with my high waisted leggings and shorts.
- I do have a shorter torso so it does roll up sometimes when I sit or do certain movements but it isn’t uncomfortable and easily readjusts! Just wanted to mention!
- The cups have a removable liner which is great, I usually remove those! It is still double lined without the pad (it’s a thin pad although nothing crazy to keep in!)
- I love the seam that goes from the bottom up to the center of each cup – I feel like this gives it a more sophisticated look but it doesn’t show through a shirt which is so important!

Final Thoughts
The Silver Sea Apparel Lifestyle Sports Bra is definitely one to check out! You will love the feel of the TENCEL fabric, and removable liners! although if you have a short torso, the band can roll up. The straps are adjustable as well, which helps you customize the fit, which I loved while breastfeeding more frequently, and if you are earlier in the breastfeeding days when you’re fluctuating more in size, this is a great feature! TENCEL is definitely one of my favorite fabrics so far in the plant-based activewear space and I think Silver Sea Apparel is a brand to try and watch for what comes out next! I love that they are incorporating more long sleeve and men’s styles as well!
